Gladmat Festival 2024

Welcome to Stavanger´s Food Festival

From 26th. to 29th. June you are invited to our Gladmat Festival, being held this year for the 26th. time! Over these four days, Stavanger city centre is transformed into what we believe to be the most fun food festival in the world.

During Gladmat, the festival arena stretching the entire length of Vågen is filled with exhibitors – large and small – offering delicious local produce and super-cool street food. Some of them offer seated service and others offer hand-held or bagged food to go.

Opening hours for the festival arena are:
Wednesday – Friday, 12:00 hrs. – 21:00 hrs.
Saturday, 11:00 hrs. – 21:00 hrs.
(Some stands are open until midnight).
Those exhibitors selling local produce in the Market Square may close at 18:00 hrs.
The Children´s Gladmat is open from 11:00 hrs. – 17:00 hrs. every day.

All of the exhibitors will be serving their own individual Gladmat dish, which is available to taste for NOK 50 or NOK 75. This year´s Gladmat tasting dishes will be presented on the website prior to the start of the festival.

In addition to the exhibitors, Gladmat offers a varied and informative programme. There is an area designated to local breweries and cider houses, as well as a wealth of exciting events in Pedersgata, Gladmat Night in Fargegata – a guaranteed highlight, Boiling Point which offers activities throughout the day, and not forgetting The Children´s Gladmat which is new this year, offering activities for children and adults alike. In addition, we have lots of restaurants hosting their own events featuring food, entertainment and celebrity chefs.
Admission to the festival arena is free of charge. You may be required to purchase a ticket in advance for some of the events.

More detailed information is provided below. You can also go to the programme, which provides a good overview of the festival content.

Welcome to Stavanger´s Food Festival!

Eple & Humle

At the end of Skagenkaien, opposite the Hotel Victoria, you will find Eple & Humle. This is where around 20 breweries and cider houses are gathered to offer you delicious tastings. You can also purchase food here. Eple & Humle has plenty of seating and tables where you can take a break, meet the brewers and producers and get answers to any questions you might have about their excellent products.

We are also planning to hold Master Classes. More information to follow!

Welcome to a a wonderful atmosphere and exciting new treats for your taste buds.

Gladmat in Pedersgata

In Pedersgata you can enjoy a different type of Gladmat experience. The variety of restaurants lining the city´s longest, fabulous food street are all set to serve Gladmat dishes you won’t want to miss. The names of the restaurants along with their locations will be detailed on the festival map.
The restaurants received overwhelmingly positive feedback on last year´s dishes, and experienced long queues outside many of their doors.

We will be closing off two areas in Pedersgata where seating will be available so that you can purchase the Gladmat tasting dishes of your choice from the nearby restaurants, relax and soak up the festival atmosphere.

Pedersgata has a unique history, and in conjunction with Stavanger´s 900th. Jubilee, Stavanger 2025, Gladmat invites the public to enjoy this special street through culinary experiences and storytelling. One of the ways in which we do this is by Gladmat Trails, which transport the public from restaurant to restaurant. This year´s tours will be guided by our Foodie Favourites, Mari Hult and Olav Larsen. Tickets are already in high demand, so we would advise you to purchase your´s early to avoid disappointment.

Next year we plan to feature the world´s best long table in Pedersgata and during our summer festival, we will invite members of the public to share their favourite long table story. You can read more about Gladmat in Pedersgata here.

Gladmat Night in Fargegata

Fargegata has been an important part of the Gladmat Festival for many years and fortunately, this summer is no exception.

Fargegata conjures up the world´s best atmosphere in the world´s most charming street. We will have a live DJ in the street, and both Hanekam and Cirkus will be hosting fun-filled events throughout the festival. At Bøker & børst you can also look forward to superb live music, delicious food from Matcompaniet and relaxed socialising in the city´s most inviting backyard.

Some of the restaurants will be offering a Gladmat tasting dish, and Cirkus will be launching a world-first surprise on Wednesday, 26th. June. You can find more information in the programme on what is taking place where. If you search on Fargegata, you will be able to get a good overview.

Make sure to take a trip to Fargegata. You are guaranteed to have fun!

Boiling Point

The big Boiling Point tent is located at the northern entrance to the festival, in the car park behind Shed 6, facing the Concert Hall. An exciting and varied programme is in place throughout the day. Everything happening onstage is expertly conveyed to the audience by our experienced presenters – Kjartan Skjelde, Sigurd Sollien and Veronica Simoné Fjeld, whilst everything behind the scenes is managed by our excellent in-house chef, Frode Selvaag.

Onstage you can meet some of the country´s top chefs whom we are fortunate enough to count amongst our Gladmat ambassadors: Nicolai Lundsgaard, Jens Peter Kolbech, Karl Erik Pallesen, Sven Erik Renaa, Christopher Davidsen, Runa Kvendseth, Eline Sofie Sunde, Roger Joya, Martine Espeland and Jimmy Øien. In addition, you will be able to meet this year´s guests of honour, namely Nils Rennan Lilleheie and Eyvind Hellstrøm. They use only the best of produce and will inspire you with their passion for food, fantastic flavours and entertainment.

We are also hosting The Kitchen Party, for which tickets need to be purchased in advance. All of the other events and activities are free of charge and do not require registration. There is plenty of seating, as well as a bar where you can buy drinks. You can get your food to go from the festival exhibitors, and there is also a seafood stand located right next to Boiling Point and serving a delicious Gladmat tasting dish.

Boiling Point will also be holding a culinary competition specifically for apprentice chefs, and we will be receiving an esteemed visit from the international Délice City Network on Food and Gastronomy.

The Children´s Gladmat

Welcome to this year´s brand new Children´s Gladmat! It will be located at the top end of the Market Square, right at the very heart of the festival. There will be cookery courses on offer as well as a whole host of other activities themed around meat, fish and vegetables. These activities are suitable for children and youths, and will be available daily from 11:00 hrs. to 17:00 hrs.

The Children´s Gladmat is designed to teach our younger audience about the sources of fresh ingredients, provide sensory taste experiences and build knowledge. Through various activities such as Happy Little Chefs, a food workshop, growing their very own kitchen garden and our “Meet the Fish” attraction, we are confident that the children will have fun whilst learning, and taste some delicious food too.

The children will be in the safe hands of the skilled course leaders and facilitators, so that you as parents can feel reassured that everything is carried out in a controlled and positive environment. Parents are not even allowed access to some of the courses, meaning that you can safely leave your children there whilst you explore the festival arena and taste lots of good food.

If you and your family would like to learn more about urban farming, ByAuk which is located at Ullandhaug is holding a Family Open Day on the opening day of the festival. It is highly recommended!

You can find out more about what´s on offer at the Children´s Gladmat on this page. It is easy to find out what is happening when by searching on “suitable for children”.
