Gladmat Festival 2024

Welcome to Stavanger´s Food Festival

From 25th to 28th June you are invited to our Gladmat Festival, being held this year for the 27th time! Over these four days, Stavanger city centre is transformed into what we believe to be the most fun food festival in the world.

During Gladmat, the festival arena stretching the entire length of Vågen is filled with exhibitors – large and small – offering delicious local produce and super-cool street food. Some of them offer seated service and others offer hand-held or bagged food to go.

Opening hours for the festival arena are:
Wednesday – Friday, 12:00 hrs. – 21:00 hrs.
Saturday, 11:00 hrs. – 21:00 hrs.
(Some stands close at 18.00 hours, while some are open until midnight).
Those exhibitors selling local produce in the Market Square may close at 18:00 hrs.
The Children´s Gladmat is open from 11:00 hrs. – 18:00 hrs. every day.

All of the exhibitors will be serving their own individual Gladmat dish, which is available to taste for NOK 50 or NOK 75. This year´s Gladmat tasting dishes will be presented on the website prior to the start of the festival.

In addition to the exhibitors, Gladmat offers a varied and informative programme. There is an area designated to local breweries and cider houses, as well as a wealth of exciting events in Pedersgata, Gladmat Night in Fargegata – a guaranteed highlight, Kokepunktet which offers activities throughout the day, and not forgetting The Children´s Gladmat, which is offering activities for children and adults alike. In addition, we have lots of restaurants hosting their own events featuring food, entertainment and celebrity chefs.
Admission to the festival arena is free of charge. You may be required to purchase a ticket in advance for some of the events.

More detailed information is provided below. You can also go to the programme, which provides a good overview of the festival content.

Welcome to Stavanger´s Food Festival!

Eple & Humle

At the end of Skagenkaien, opposite the Hotel Victoria, you will find Eple & Humle. This is where breweries and cider houses are gathered to offer you delicious tastings. You can also purchase food here. Eple & Humle has plenty of seating and tables where you can take a break, meet the brewers and producers and get answers to any questions you might have about their excellent products.

Welcome to a a wonderful atmosphere and exciting new treats for your taste buds.

Gladmat in Pedersgata

In Pedersgata you can enjoy a different type of Gladmat experience. The variety of restaurants lining the city´s longest, fabulous food street are all set to serve Gladmat dishes you won’t want to miss. The names of the restaurants along with their locations will be detailed on the festival map.
The restaurants received overwhelmingly positive feedback on last year´s dishes, and experienced long queues outside many of their doors.

Gladmat Night in Fargegata

The city’s most colourful street turns up the volume during the festival – with DJs, buzzing crowds and feel-good vibes from morning till night.

This year, we’re turning up the heat with Last Human Standing and Last Band Standing. The first is a classic chili-eating showdown hosted by the one and only Chili Klaus – not for the faint of heart! The second? A local band takes the stage and tries to survive increasingly hotter chilis while the crowd cheers (and laughs… and maybe even cries a little on their behalf).

You can find more information in the programme on what is taking place where. If you search on Fargegata, you will be able to get a good overview.

Kokepunktet

Here you’ll find chef demos, apprentice competitions, lively debates – and the main event of the evening: Kjøkkenfesten.

Daytime activities are led by Kjartan Skjelde, who hosts cooking demos and the apprentice showdown. When the chefs present their dishes on stage, the audience gets a taste too! In the evening, Hans Petter Jørgensen takes over as host of Kjøkkenfesten – a ticketed event featuring a new chef and fresh theme each night. Behind the scenes, this year’s house chef Eline Sofie Sunde keeps everything running smoothly.

Everything except Kjøkkenfesten is free to attend. There’s plenty of seating, an open bar, and you’re welcome to bring food from the festival stalls.

The Children´s Gladmat

Right in the heart of the city square, young foodies are invited to dive into fun activities that spark curiosity and a love of food – all on their terms.

Here, kids can make their own cheese, learn about fish and earn the ever-popular «Fiskeknappen». There are hands-on cooking classes and activities featuring vegetables, seafood, and other delicious ingredients.

The goal? To give children a fun and educational experience – and a better understanding of where food comes from. It’s the perfect place for little chefs with big questions (and hungry bellies).

Open Wednesday to Saturday, 11:00–18:00.

You can find out more about what´s on offer at the Children´s Gladmat on this page. It is easy to find out what is happening when by searching on “suitable for children”.

Gladmat in the restaurants (and bars)

You can choose between a whole host of fabulous events at this year´s Gladmat Festival. Mouth-watering menus, fun concepts, fantastic hosts, new acquaintances, dancing, entertainment and learning – there is so much to look forward to!

You can find more information about our events here. You can also take a look at the programme page, where you can search for a specific festival participant, day or type of event. We are quite sure that you will find plenty of things to pique your interest.

You are warmly welcomed to Gladmat 2025!
